The Exhibits

In our collection you will find an archive of over 3000 photographs. From the days when Millom was a very busy training base and a large section illustrating the history of No10 air gunnery school. We have an ongoing research project and a growing display area devoted to the history of RAF Cark. Including almost all of the course photographs, and also photographs of the surviving buildings.   There is also information on the Airship Works at Vickers, Barrow and also Flookburgh and RAF Morecambe.

The museum has several Aero engines including a lovely example of the Rolls Royce Merlin. We have a delightful example of the HM14 flying flea, which was built locally and restored in our highly unusual but much acclaimed aircraft restoration workshop within the prison. Also a replica of Mignets HM280 military flea. In our yard stands a Westland Whirlwind WM660. Adjacent to this is our latest extension which houses our Vampire T11 and Jet Provost cockpits. Many items on display have been recovered by excavating WW11 aircraft wreck sites. The museum is pursuing a policy of housing all its restored exhibits indoors both for your comfort and their protection. We assure you that the modest admission charge will only be used to this end.
