Rolls Royce Merlin

 

The 1050 Hp. Merlin engine is out of a Hawker Hurricane (P3831) which crashed whilst on a training flight from RAF Crosby on Eden (now Carlisle Airport) on the 8th April 1941. 

The aircraft apparently stalled and spun into the ground at Coffee Wood near Gretna, Scotland. it was recovered from the wood on the 3rd September 1977.

Prior to the accident the aircraft saw active service in the Battle of Britain.
